Position: Development & Marketing Manager
Reports to: Co-President, Board of Directors

Overview: The Development & Marketing Manager serves as the primary staff representative to support and implement a fundraising and communications strategy that involves email and mail solicitations, creating marketing collateral that highlights the organization’ mission, event planning, providing general Development operations, including donor information management and gift processing; and volunteer management, including recruitment, training and stewardship.
The Development & Marketing Manager partners with Board of Directors involved in above projects with the following tasks, including but not limited to: marketing and solicitation writing, project oversight to meet deadlines for design, print and release; generating reports and tracking solicitation performance, data entry best-practices and involvement with fundraising events that include but are not limited to event strategy, planning and execution.
Working Hours: Up to 32 hours/week, with occasional nights and weekends. Adjustments to assignments that require additional hours are agreed in advance.
Essential Functions
Development Operations
- Partner with Board President and Development & Marketing Committee to meet $300,000 fundraising goal via annual giving that includes solicitations, donations, major gifts, planned giving, grants and events
- In partnership with Development & Marketing Committee implement approximately 4-5 donation solicitations annually via email and/or mail – incorporating organizational themes, focus and strategy to move donors forward in a giving process; create online forms for donor giving and electronic marketing
- Oversee donor information management system — creating new donor records, updating existing records, generating reports and queries for donor prospecting and solicitation and overseeing a monthly database management plan that maintains information integrity
- Support approximately 1-2 fundraising events annually that cultivate and steward donors and promotes CCHS mission
- Serve as primary CCHS representative to volunteers, including but not limited to recruitment (outreach, application review and training), volunteer shift planning with program sponsors and stewardship
Marketing
- Manage and maintain marketing projects start to finish — content creation, design scope, implementation via print or digital — meeting deadlines and distribution plans. Online and integrated marketing campaigns, online donation forms and processes
- Create and manage a social media presence and calendar, building content for review and input and engaging with followers, partnering with Office Manager for loading and posting
- Use Constant Contact to create emails for organization awareness and fundraising efforts
- Collaborate on design, copy creation and implementation of various website content in partnership with Development & Marketing Committee
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
- 5 years experience and background in the nonprofit sector, preferably in a role with direct fundraising goal responsibilities
- Donor database knowledge a plus, specifically DonorPerfect, or other Development related software
- Design knowledge in Canva, Illustrator and other programs a plus
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Commitment to the mission, goals and success of Contra Costa Humane Society Understanding of organizational brand awareness
- Concepts, principles and best practices of nonprofit fundraising
Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints
Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities
Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadline - Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders — volunteers, staff, donors and Contra Costa Humane Society Board of Directors
- Flexibility, adaptability, and aptitude for effectively prioritizing multiple tasks and responding to high-pressure requests
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel and database systems; knowledge with design software a plus - Valid California driver’s license, working car, and insurance
Working Conditions
- Primary working location will be in animal shelter environment
- Potential for exposure to animal bites and scratches; and animal feces, blood and zoonotic diseases
- Must be able to tolerate the emotional aspect of working in an animal shelter environment
