"It is remarkable to know that every
creature has the chance to go from forgotten to beloved if the right open heart comes
along." -- Samarra Khaja |

Every year,
millions of companion animals are surrendered to public shelters in need of new homes.
The number of
animals we can save depends on loving foster homes.
Please help a
homeless animal by opening your heart and home to a temporary furry visitor! |

Lend
a Paw to these Important Causes!

Each year, approximately $250,000,000 in taxpayer
money is spent to house and euthanize homeless animals in California
alone. As of April, over 154,911 dogs and cats have been euthanized in California
shelters in 2009, to the tune of over $75,000,000.
SB 250, The Pet Responsibility Act, is a fiscally
responsible and humane step towards reducing the pet overpopulation crisis in California.
It simply requires that companion dogs be altered, unless their guardian obtains an
unaltered dog licence, when licensing their dog with county animal services departments.
It also requires that outdoor or free-roaming cats be altered by their guardian or
caregiver.
Contra Costa Humane Society supports SB 250 and
asks that you consider lending your support to this important legislation.

Home Foreclosure and Your Pets:
Animals in California are being surrendered to shelters in increasing numbers due
to the foreclosure crisis. In the last quarter of 2007, the foreclosure rate grew
218% from 2006 in Contra Costa County alone. Moving may be inevitable for many, but what happens to
beloved companion animals when one is unable to keep their home? It's key for one to
develop a plan that includes one's animals and to consider all possible options before
abandoning animals at overburdened municipal shelters. Please click here for options on renting with your animals,
re-homing your animals, and other short-term solutions. This information is
critical in ensuring that your beloved companion animals are able to remain part of the
family. |
