Friendly Felines Who Need Homes!

Listed below are the cats we currently have available for adoption.  Also be sure to check out the "Coming Attractions!" link to the left, where we have our itty-bitty kittens who are still to young to be adopted, but will be coming soon.  Read about their weekly progress and watch them as they grow!

We are a small, non-profit organization and have only as many animals available for adoption as we have foster homes.  Please note that we are not the county animal shelter - all of our animals are in foster care and can be met by appointment only.

The adoption process:  If you are interested in adopting any of the animals listed below, please download and complete an adoption application for the cat or kitten of choice.  Once completed, please email, fax, or mail the application to our office.  Once received and approved, we will be able to set up a time for you & your family to meet the cat or kitten of interest.

Penelope 12.jpg (33691 bytes)Meet Princess Penelope, the most royal purr-bug of all kittens! This docile little girl is sweet as can be - very, very affectionate, loving to cuddle with people and other kitties alike, and thoroughly enjoying playtime with her other kitty friends or a curiously tempting feather toy. If you let her, she'll happily sleep right on your pillow atPenelope 2.jpg (26569 bytes) night, purring to her heart's desire, right next to your head, as you sleep. She's definitely a lap kitten and will show you how much she loves you by kissing your nose!

Little Penelope had a tough start in life. At close to six weeks of age, she was taken from a public shelter because of her small size, but in her new foster home, we found that she seemed to have a strong preference for eating only canned tuna and goat's milk (hence her moniker of "Princess"!). We also noticed, however, that her breathing seemed far more labored than it should. One visit to a local veterinarian and an x-ray later, it was discovered that this little girl was suffering from a herniated diaphragm... all of her intestines and her liver were now in her chest cavity, pushing against her lungs, which were in turn unable to develop in full. Similarly, she wasn't able to eat properly and so was not putting on the weight she should've. She went into surgery the next day, and none of us could've expected her to recover as quickly as she did! Within days, this little girl thought she was at 150% - trying to make her Penelope 1.jpg (16080 bytes)realize she needed to rest was the challenge! She is now bounding around the house, playing excitedly with her other kitty friends, and has no problems breathing whatsoever, as her lungs have been given the room to develop properly. She is now healthy, happy and quickly growing! Although she'll happily eat dryPenelope 5.jpg (30984 bytes) food now without hesitation, she's true to her princess name, and still really does have a soft spot for goat's milk and tuna!

Penelope was born mid-to-late June and is now just over 8 weeks of age. We'll give this little girl a bit of time to continue growing before spaying her, but her spaying, microchipping and age-appropriate vaccinations will be financially paid for by Contra Costa Humane Society. She has currently been dewormed and received her first FVRCP vaccine.

Miss Penelope will do fantastically in a home where there is another young kitty around for her to play with, or where people are home much of the time to receive all of her affection. Families in which someone works from home or is retired would be an ideal match for this sweet little girl, and she'll let you know how much she appreciates you everyday for the rest of her life!

To apply to adopt Princess Penelope, please complete an adoption application (above). Thank you!

Josie 71008 001 (2).jpg (24967 bytes)Josie and Lucy.jpg (20230 bytes) Sweet, petite little Josie is a young, hip girl looking for her forever home.  Purring, cuddling, playing, being carried around... she goes with the flow and is one easy-going, lovable girl!  She purrs like nothing else when you pet her, and she loves to roll on her back and have her belly scratched.  One of her favorite pasttimes is rubbing against you wherever you may happen to be, so clothes that don't allow cat hair to stick like velcro are a plus!

Josie is a young girl at only about 1 year of age, but she's raised her kittens well and is now looking to go live her life.  Josie's quite the cuddler and is great with cat-friendly older children (preferably over the age of 7 years), loving being carried around room to room to Josie 71008 001 (6).jpg (21608 bytes)room and never tiring of the Josie 71008 001 (8).jpg (24620 bytes)attention.  She's a beautiful, soft, medium-haired dilute calico with subtle markings and sparkling gold eyes.  Quite the looker she is!  She hopes that someone will recognize that even though she's been a mom, she's only a kitten herself!   Josie is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccines,  litter-box trained and scratching post trained - looks and ashining resume!

Lola Adoption Pending This little lover just turned 12 weeks of age around June 24th and is ready to venture into the world and boundLola 2.jpg (14248 bytes) into a loving household where she will be pampered as the princess she is. Lola is a gorgeous, very petite, short-haired cream tiger and is the more inquisitive and curious of her siblings - loving to explore and investigate things and coming around for cuddle & purr time when her kitten energy has expired. She has the typical young kitten enthusiasm for life and will do well in any home willing to give her a few days to adjust to her new surroundings, and when she does, she'll be nuzzled into you, purring away! She enjoys cuddling on the bed, so be sure to have a spot ready for her!

Lola will be a small cat, as her mom is relatively tiny as well. Lola is great with cat-friendly children, dogs, other cats (with an adjustment period, of course) and is great with her scratching post. She'd also do equally well in a quiet home where she could be pampered completely!

Sophie & Mikey RP2.jpg (19752 bytes) Meet Sophie & Mikey!  These two buddies are very sweetSophie & Mikey RP.jpg (22371 bytes) and affectionate and ever-so-hopeful to find a new home together.  Currently they are in a very loving home, but due to a child's development of a severe allergy, the family is looking to find a wonderful home where these two can live a long and happy life together!

Sophie RP1.jpg (17035 bytes)Sophie is a beautiful brown tabby with yellow/green eyes, weighing about 10lbs.  She is spayed and was born in April 2003.  She is very mellow and easy going, independent, affectionate, and has the cute quirky behavior of meowing at bugs & shadows!  She is great with kids, is completely litterbox trained and loves her kitty tree!

Her companion, Mikey, is a beautiful Siamese mix with sparkling blueMikey RP2.jpg (13309 bytes) eyes.  A big guy he is, weighing nearly 18lbs, but that's just all the more to love you with! Mikey is a lapcat, is quite the cuddlebug and is very affectionate, following people around like a dog.  In his spare time, he's happy to hang out with his friend, Sophie, and sleep.  Mikey was born in March 2004 and is neutered and microchipped.  Like Sophie, he is great with kids, completely litterbox trained and also loves his kitty tree.

These two gorgeous friends hope to find an indoor-only home together.  They both have so much love to offer to the right family and would be a wonderful addition to any home looking for cuddly, sweet, affectionate adult cats with very stable temperaments.  If you are interested in potentially meeting these two sweethearts, please complete an adoption application (above) and email, mail, or fax it to our office.  Thank you!

Fred Astaire 2.jpg (28873 bytes) Adoption Pending  Fred Astaire (Mr. Tuxedo Kitty!)  This young little guy is sure to charm his way intoFred Astaire 1.jpg (36135 bytes) your heart!   Complete with a black suit, white "shirt," "shoes," and whiskers, Fred Astaire was born around mid-April and weighs less than 4lbs. He's a young little kitten in search of a home that comes complete with plenty of kitten play space, a warm lap to sit on (when playtime's over, of course!), and some doggie friends to hang out with would be another plus!

Fred Astaire had a tough little start at life.  He was found at a construction site by a nice worker who had heard him crying.  Just a newborn, Fred Astaire had stayed with his sibling, who had already died.  The worker took the little guy to a veterinarian, who asked a wonderful lady to hand-raise him, bottle-feeding him around the clock and becoming "mama cat," more or less!  She has cared for him ever since, but knew she'd only be able to foster.  Once he was old enough, she had him vaccinated, neutered & microchipped.

Fred Astaire 3.jpg (34628 bytes)Fred Astaire is a lovable, active little kitten who loves playtime!   He's great with his litterbox and doesn't mind bathtime, although could use some coaxing on having his nails trimmed!  With a little bit of consistent training, he'll be great at using a scratching post as well.  His foster feels he'd be ideal in a home with either a family or a single person, preferably with a small dog and some older children to play with.

Fred Astaire is available through CCHS's Referral Program.  If you're interested in meeting this little charmer and feel he might be a good match for your home, please complete an adoption application (above) and email, fax or mail it into our office.  You'll be glad you didn't pass this little guy up!

Tigger_-_RP.jpg (13869 bytes)As his foster describes him, Tigger is nothing short of the biggest lovebug ever!  This little kitten just wants to be held and enjoys giving kisses to his family.  He has a purr motor on him like nothing else and comes equipped with lots of purrsonality.

Tigger has lots of love to offer and like his sibling, Taz, enjoys a good game of hair-playing every now and then.  A sweetheart of a teenager, Tigger is 1-year old and hopes to find a home where he'll be king of the household.  After all, someone has to be around to receive all of that love!

Tigger is available through CCHS's Referral Program.  To meet this little smooshpot, please complete an adoption application (above).

Taz_-_RP.jpg (10302 bytes)Taz This playful and high-spirited sweetheart will keep you entertained for hours, andTaz_4_-_RP.jpg (5797 bytes) she doesn't even need expensive kitty toys, as she loves to play with your hair!  She's full of spunk and energy, but also loves to be petted and cuddled, and happily welcomes you home by brushing up against your legs.

Taz is a 1-year old beautiful brown tabby with white, and an adorable little smudge on the side of her nose.  She is spayed and current on her vaccines.

Taz_2_-_RP.jpg (10196 bytes)Taz is available through CCHS's Referral Program.  To meet this little bundle of energy, please complete an adoption application, above ... don't miss out because laughter is always good for anyone!

Angel Eyes 1.jpg (18209 bytes) Angel Eyes is a sweet and shy girl looking for a loving, forever home. She's been abandoned twice in her short little life after trusting people to care for her, so she's hopeful that her next home will allow her time to come out of her shell. Angel Eyes 3.jpg (12920 bytes)

Once she figures out she's safe, she enjoys being picked up and purrs away, asking for affection by nudging you, plopping down at your feet, or curling up behind you on the couch and playing with your hair. Once contently adored, she'll happily curl up beside you and nap.

Angel Eyes 5.jpg (26184 bytes)Angel Eyes enjoys sitting in the sun on a protected patio, watching the world go by. She also enjoys basking by a window, watching the squirrels and birds go about their day. She is litter box trained and will let you know when she's hungry by talking up a storm!

Angel Eyes is a 3-year-old spayed silky black Bombay-type beauty with large, yellowish-green eyes. She would do best in a quiet, adult household, and because she prefers to receive all of the attention, she's not recommended for a home with other cats.

Angel Eyes is available through CCHS's Referral Program.   If you might be willing to give this beautiful, shy, sweet girl some time to come out of her shell, she will reward you ten-fold with her devotion. To meet this beauty and see if she's the right match for you, please complete an adoption application (above).

Looking for another reason to adopt a cat or kitten?  According to a Contra Costa Times article on Friday, February 22nd, 2008, "A new study suggests cat owners are less likely to die of a heart attack or stroke than people who, well, don't own cats.  The study by researchers at the University Of Minnesota found that people without felines were 30 percent to 40 percent more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than those with cats.   Dr. Adnan Qureshi, a stroke expert at the university, said he decided to raise the question because other studies have suggested pets can help reduce stress.  He and his team analyzed 4,435 people who answered questions about pet ownership and risk factors."

Reason #2,546 to adopt a cat!

Are you hoping to see more cats & kittens available for adoption through CCHS?  So are we!  We're only able to rescue as many animals as we have foster homes, so we appreciate all suitable fosters willing to give some love and attention to a dog or cat in need.   Please consider helping us save the lives of homeless animals in our county by becoming a foster parent.  The care comes at no financial cost to you, but the feeling you'll get from saving a life is priceless.  To find out more about foster care, please click here.

Paws for thought... Just this year alone, 3-4 million animals will be euthanized - more than a quarter-million each month, 405 each hour,       one every nine seconds.

A devastating number of unwanted and unplanned animals are born each year without the guarantee of a forever home.  Each home found for these animals means one less home for an already-alive shelter animal facing euthanasia.  If you could do something simple to help end this needless destruction, wouldn't you?

PLEASE spay, neuter, adopt and spread the word!

We can all make a difference in the lives of these animals.
