Foster an Animal in Need

Jackson.jpg (31102 bytes)Jackson's story

This is Jackson, an Australian Cattledog mix taken from a local animal shelter.  Jackson had been hit by a car and after receiving generous care from staff and volunteers at the shelter, he needed a little more time to recover before he could go to a loving home.  His time was quickly running out, however.

Jackson was one of the lucky ones.   Fortunately, CCHS was able to provide him with a temporary foster home until the right adoptive home could be found.

Jackson's wounds healed and his spirits were boundless.  Without that extra time, Jackson would never have known how fun it is to chase a tennis ball, dissect squeaky toys, and play with his new canine "brother," Cody.  His adoptive family would have missed out on his affectionate disposition and would never have known the joys of "Jackson kisses" or the warmth that a 50lb. dog can bring to your lap.

Too many dogs and cats, just as loving as Jackson, wait at shelters throughout California, only in need of a little more time.  Can you help these loving animals out by being a temporary foster guardian?  Your time and compassion could literally mean the difference between life and death for many animals left behind by society.

Please continue reading to find out more about CCHS's foster program.  There's no better feeling than knowing you helped to save the life of a homeless animal, and they'll never let you forget how grateful they are!

Local animal shelters work hard every single day to find homes for the many animals taking refuge at their facilities...however, we wpe1.jpg (3115 bytes)can all work together to help these animals in need!

At Contra Costa Humane Society, we strive to help the local shelters by taking animals from their facilities and placing them in foster homes.  As we do not operate a shelter, we rely solely on local volunteer foster families to provide the love and care necessary for these transitional animals.  Therefore, we are only allowed to save as many animals as we have available foster homes!  Many times, the animals may have a medical concern or behavioral concern that needs addressing...those are the animals most in need of foster love, as without help and some TLC, they will not be adopted.

CCHS's foster care comes at no cost to you.  We pay for all food, supplies and medical expenses needed for your foster animal.  If you are able to provide a safe and loving temporary environment for these animals, you are directly responsible for giving them a second chance in life!

Foster animals are given age-appropriate vaccinations and temperament tested before being placed in foster homes.   Before being adopted, they are spayed/neutered and microchipped.

PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A CCHS FOSTER...THESE ANIMALS MAY NOT HAVE A TOMORROW WITHOUT YOUR GENEROSITY.

If you are interested in providing foster care to a transitional dog, cat, puppy or kitten, please download our Foster Home Application.  Once completed, you may either email it to us at humanesociety@sbcglobal.net, mail it to our address as listed above, or fax it to (925) 279-2249.

If you would like to contribute to CCHS's mission of finding loving homes for Contra Costa's companion animals, please consider making a donation.

Paws for thought... Just this year alone, 3-4 million animals will be euthanized - more than a quarter-million each month, 405 each hour,       one every nine seconds.

A devastating number of unwanted and unplanned animals are born each year without the guarantee of a forever home.  Each home found for these animals means one less home for an already-alive shelter animal facing euthanasia.  If you could do something simple to help end this needless destruction, wouldn't you?

PLEASE spay, neuter, adopt and spread the word!

We can all make a difference in the lives of these animals.
